About Rosebull
How long has Rosebull been breeding American Bulldogs?
Since 2000. Lance and Lesli Rose founded Rosebull in Harvey, New Brunswick. 29 years of structured records, health testing, and published pedigrees.
Who runs Rosebull and what are your credentials?
Lesli Rose is the head breeder. She is also the registrar of the American Bulldog Registry and Archives (ABRA) since 2005, and founder of the Olde Bulldogge Breed Association (OBBA). Lance Rose co-owns Rosebull and ABRA.
What types of American Bulldogs do you breed?
Both Classic (Scott / Standard) and Bully (Johnson) type, plus carefully planned hybrid pairings. Temperament, structure, and health drive every breeding decision — never type for its own sake.
How many litters do you produce per year?
Two to four planned litters per year, never more. We breed for our waitlist, not to inventory dogs.
Where are you located and can I visit?
Harvey, New Brunswick, Canada — about 45 minutes outside Fredericton. Yes, qualified buyers visit by appointment after the application stage.
About the Breed
What is the difference between a Classic and Bully American Bulldog?
Classic (Scott) is taller, leaner, more athletic; bred for working drive and game performance. Bully (Johnson) is heavier, broader, blockier; bred for guard and family work. Both share core temperament: loyal, protective, family-oriented, biddable with consistent handling.
Are American Bulldogs good family dogs?
Yes — for the right family. They are bonded, protective, and patient with children they grow up with. They need structured handling, daily exercise, and consistent rules. They are not low-effort dogs.
How big do American Bulldogs get?
Males 75-100 lbs, 23-26 inches at the shoulder. Females 60-80 lbs, 20-24 inches. Bully type runs heavier; Classic type runs leaner and taller.
How long do American Bulldogs live?
10 to 16 years. Health-tested lines bred for soundness reach the upper end. The breed standard expects longevity.
Are American Bulldogs the same as American Bullies or Pit Bulls?
No. American Bulldog, American Bully, and American Pit Bull Terrier are three separate breeds with different histories and standards. The American Bulldog is the working bulldog descended from English Bulldogs brought to the American South in the 1700s.
Are American Bulldogs banned anywhere?
Some Canadian provinces and US municipalities have breed-specific legislation that may include American Bulldogs. Check your local laws before applying.
Are American Bulldogs hard to train?
No. They are intelligent and biddable when handling is consistent and fair. They are sensitive to harshness and will check out under aversive training. Reward-based training works very well.
Health and Guarantees
What health testing do Rosebull parents have?
OFA evaluation for hips and elbows at 24+ months. Embark genetic panel covering NCL, Ichthyosis, and HUU (the three CHIC-required DNA tests for the breed). Health certificates and Embark public reports are linked from each parent dog's page.
What does the Rosebull health guarantee cover?
Hereditary conditions for the first two years. Full terms on the guarantee page.
Can I see actual test results?
Yes. Every breeding parent's OFA certificate and Embark public report URL are linked from their dog page on rosebull.com — verifiable in 30 seconds.
Are American Bulldogs healthy?
American Bulldogs are generally robust. Breed-specific concerns include hip and elbow dysplasia, NCL (fatal neurological), Ichthyosis (skin), and HUU (urinary stone risk). All are screenable. Rosebull screens every breeding parent.
What vaccinations and vet care do puppies receive before going home?
First set of vaccinations, deworming, microchip, and a complete vet exam at 7-8 weeks. Records go home with you.
Puppies and the Waiting List
How does the Rosebull waitlist work?
Submit the structured application on the puppies page. We reply to qualified inquiries within 5 business days. Live video call required before any deposit. Deposit secures your position. Puppies are matched to families at 7-8 weeks based on temperament.
How much is a Rosebull puppy?
Pricing varies by litter, breeding rights, and shipping arrangement. We share specifics on the call once we know we are a good fit. Rosebull does not negotiate price.
What deposit do you require?
A non-refundable deposit. Amount and payment method are shared on the call. We accept e-transfer, certified cheque, or PayPal. We do not accept gift cards, unsecured crypto, or personal-account wire transfers.
When do you choose which puppy is mine?
We match at 7-8 weeks based on temperament assessments — not first-come-first-served. Each puppy is profiled for energy level, drive, sociability, and recovery; matched to the home that best fits the dog.
How long is the wait?
Variable. From a few weeks to a year+ depending on your preferences. We do not pressure decisions or rush placements.
Do you sell with breeding rights?
Selectively. Breeding rights are reserved for buyers with a verifiable plan, structured kennel program, and demonstrated commitment to health testing.
What if my preferred type, sex, or color isn't in the next litter?
We hold your application for the litter that matches your preferences. The waitlist is not chronological; it is preference-matched.
Registration and Pedigrees
What registry do you register with?
American Bulldog Registry and Archives (ABRA). Every Rosebull puppy receives full ABRA registration papers with the puppy.
Where can I see a dog's pedigree?
On pedigreedatabase.ca — a public, third-party archive. Every Rosebull dog has an entry. Click any dog on rosebull.com and you can verify in 30 seconds.
What does the ABRA naming convention mean?
Under ABRA policy, the breeder prefix stays in the registered name forever. New owners can add an '@ Kennelname' suffix when the dog enters their own breeding program. The breeder credit never disappears — important for buyer verification.
Can a Rosebull puppy be dual-registered?
Yes. ABRA-registered dogs are typically dual-registerable with NKC, UKC, and other major registries. We help with the paperwork.
How do I verify Rosebull is a real breeder?
Three ways: (1) check the breeder profile on pedigreedatabase.ca, (2) check ABRA membership at abra1st.com, (3) ask for current breeding-dog OFA + Embark links and verify those records on ofa.org and app.embarkvet.com directly.
Shipping and Pickup
Can I pick up my puppy?
Yes. Pickup at our home in Harvey, NB is the preferred option. We schedule a half-day visit so you meet the parents and littermates.
Do you ship?
Yes. Across Canada via Cargojet (escorted), and internationally via vetted transport providers. We never use third-party 'pet shippers' contacted out of nowhere — that is the most common American Bulldog scam pattern.
How much does shipping cost?
Cargojet domestic typically runs CAD 500-900 depending on destination and crate size. International is quoted per case. The buyer pays shipping at cost — we do not mark up.
Do you ship to the United States?
Yes. We have placed dogs across most US states. Contact us for export documentation specifics.
Training and Support
What support do I get after taking my puppy home?
Lifetime breeder support. Text, call, or email any time, for the life of the dog. We have answered questions on dogs we placed 20 years ago.
What food do you feed?
We rotate a few high-quality kibbles and add raw meals. We send you home with what your puppy is eating. Diet specifics are discussed at the visit.
Do you recommend trainers?
Yes. We refer to trainers we have worked with and trust. Recommendation depends on your location.
Can I bring my puppy to my work, kids, daycare, etc.?
Yes — this is what early socialization prepares them for. We start kids, cats, and other dogs in the first 8 weeks.
