Breeding Rights vs Pet Price: What Buyers Need to Know

One of the most common questions we get is "what is the difference between pet price and breeding rights?" It is a fair question, and the answer matters more than most people realize.
What Pet Price Means
When you buy a Rosebull puppy at pet price, you are getting a fully registered, health tested, vaccinated, microchipped American Bulldog with a health guarantee and lifetime breeder support. That is the same quality dog regardless of price tier.
The one restriction: your puppy is sold on a spay/neuter agreement. You agree that this dog will not be bred. It is a companion, a family dog, a working dog, a show dog if you want. But it does not produce puppies.
This is not about the dog's quality. It is about responsible breeding. Not every dog should be bred, and not every owner should be a breeder. The pet price reflects a dog that is going to a home where it will be loved and cared for, not used to produce litters.
What Breeding Rights Means
Breeding rights means you have permission from us, the breeder, to breed your dog. The dog is sold on a full ABRA registration with no breeding restrictions. Any puppies produced from this dog can be registered.
The price is higher because you are not just buying a dog. You are buying into a bloodline. You are getting decades of selective breeding, health testing, and pedigree research. That genetic foundation has value, and it took years to build.
Why the Price Difference Exists
Think of it this way: a pet buyer gets one great dog. A breeding rights buyer gets one great dog plus the ability to produce more great dogs from it. The value is different because the use is different.
The price difference also reflects the additional responsibility we take on. When we sell a dog on breeding rights, we are trusting that buyer to breed responsibly. To health test. To register litters through ABRA. To follow the standards and ethics that we uphold in our own program.
That is why breeding rights are not available to everyone who asks.
Who Qualifies for Breeding Rights
Not every buyer. We evaluate breeding rights requests based on:
- Experience: Have you bred before? Do you understand genetics, health testing, whelping, and puppy raising?
- Facilities: Do you have a proper setup for raising a litter safely?
- Commitment: Are you willing to health test, register through ABRA, and follow responsible breeding practices?
- Mentorship: If you are new to breeding, are you open to learning from us?
We have sold breeding rights to first-time breeders who showed the right mindset and willingness to learn. We have denied breeding rights to experienced breeders whose practices did not align with ours. It is about the approach, not the resume.
Our Mentorship Program
When we sell a dog on breeding rights, especially to a newer breeder, we stay involved. We help with pedigree analysis, breeding pair selection, and navigating the ABRA litter registration process.
We are not just selling you a dog and wishing you luck. We are investing in the next generation of responsible American Bulldog breeders. The breed needs more good breeders, not more breeders. There is a difference.
What Happens If You Breed Without Rights
If you buy a pet-price puppy and breed it without permission, you are in violation of your purchase agreement. The puppies cannot be registered through ABRA. You have no breeder support from us. And you are contributing to the exact problem that responsible breeders spend their lives fighting against.
We take this seriously. It is in the contract for a reason.
The Bottom Line
If you want a wonderful family dog, pet price is the right choice. You get the same quality, the same health guarantee, the same lifetime support.
If you want to contribute to the breed as a responsible breeder, talk to us about breeding rights. We will be honest about whether it is the right path for you, and if it is, we will help you do it right.
